We use the book The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas as our tool for teaching emotional regulation and emotional literacy.
Children are supported to begin to identify their feelings as they experience them by supportive adults co-regulating them during heightened emotional times.
The Colour Monster helps children to begin to name their feelings and to also assign a colour to each feeling. We use small colour monster cards, check-ins and feelings jars to show adults how we feel, especially if we have not yet begun to assign the name of our emotions to the physical feeling.
